UntitledI have been wanting to hit this brunch spot since it opened. Birthday weekend came and I thought what a perfect reason to go. So we did. When we arrived, sign-up was already on the second page, meaning we will not be seated on the first wave and we have other things planned so we left. Well, we finally did make it and we were third in line. Perfect!

Untitled

It’s located in a strip mall along Sunset Boulevard in LA’s Silver Lake area. They open at 10 am every day but they don’t take reservations. If you’re brunching, it’s best to arrive early and have your name down on a clipboard situated somewhere next to the door. There are benches outside or you can grab coffee or take a nap in your car.

UntitledThe kids opted for soda and a very delicious horchata. I opted for the housemade limeade which was refreshing.

poached egg, chorizo ham, potato mousseline, marigold flowers $10.85

One of the dishes we shared is the poached egg, chorizo ham, potato mousseline, marigold flowers dish. One word comes to my mind. DIVINE. You have to take small bites with the three major components in the spoon and just let it roll around your mouth. Tasting each component separately and together. It’s just wonderful.

You can see in the picture above, hiding under the potato mousseline is the poached egg and chorizo ham.

Untitled

duck confit, leche de tigre, sweet potato, basil $19.50

This duck dish did not do it for me. I do like duck I guess just not this way. Maybe if it were boneless then maybe I would have a different opinion but the flavors were alright.

Untitled

double decker potato taco, lime, creme fraiche, carrot pico de gallo, jack $12.50

The dish above has to be the star of our brunch. It was amazing. Dare I say life changing? Yes, for me at least. See I never liked soft taco. The taco that I like and grew up with is the Filipino kind. It’s the one sold in Greenhills in the middle of a shopping mall in the Philippines. It’s a hard shell taco with shredded lettuce, ground beef and cheese. That’s it. I never liked the soft version, and being in LA, believe me I have tried. Well, I guess this one is a hybrid(?). As you can see it has both a hard and soft shell. I took a bite and I was hooked. I mean, I still think about it. I want to go back really bad. Maybe I should…just by myself or have those to go. (Now I’m just rambling LOL!)

Untitled

Galette crepe: egg, ham, comte, avocado milk $15.25

Galette crepe was suggested by one of the staff. And I can see why. Ham and cheese. Who does not like? I’m sure there are people who does not like but you know what I mean. The avocado milk adds a different touch to it. Maybe even safe enough for those who do not like avocado.

Untitled

salted caramel crepe $5

We had the salted caramel crepe to finish off our brunch. It was simple and good. Not too sweet.

Would I come back? Of course! Do I recommend? Of course!

Peaches Truck at Creme Caramel’s Food Truck Fridays

0

#peachestruckI’ve had Peaches Truck before but never wrote about them. Well, I had such a good meal yesterday it deserves a post. So here I am, crawling under my protective rock and posting pics and what not. Food at Peaches is straight up comfort food. Even their waffle fries is perfectly crisp on the outside and moist and hot on the inside. I mix ketchup and their spicy bbq sauce and I’m curling my toes. Check it out…

Ginger Limeade and Iced Hibiscus Tea

My son had the Ginger Limeade and my daughter and I had Iced Hibiscus Teas. I was still thirsty when we were done so I ordered another Iced Hibiscus Tea to go.

I’m Back :)

0

Yes, I am back. I am so sorry for my absences. I got overwhelmed with my daughter’s health problems ( we’re talking about surgeries and complications and a bunch of heal insurance issues I had to deal with), death of a loved one and when I was getting ready to post some new post pictures on my digital card got erased. So as of this moment I don’t have anything new to share but I am ready to go out and try new to me gourmet food trucks. However, I will go back to my old ways of doing it. Through Twitter, unannounced. My blog posts are never reviews but a narrative of my personal or my family’s experience. I will continue to pay for my own meals and will always state if I received anything for free.

Thanks for staying with me!

Chasing Paradise is a food truck name that’s not food related but definitely interesting. You can conjure up a gazillion ways of interpreting it. For me, the food will speak for itself because they are divine.

They don’t have the usual menu board you see in most GFT instead they have pictures with name and price posted.

They also have a variety of chips and drinks. I do love that they carry Hawaiian fruit drinks as well as flavored San Pellegrino’s.

As it says on the menu they carry the original Tocino Burger which comes in a King’s Hawaiian Bun. It served with fried egg that’s nicely balanced with a sour slaw. This burger definitely has its own following and I’m one of them. Never fails to satisfy.

Chasing-Paradise-11.04.2011-IMG_3570-orig-wm

I thought I’d get something that’s out of my usual so I went for the Skirt Steak Chimichurri Bahn Mi. It’s skirt steak that nicely grilled and seasoned with chimichurri sauce topped with slaw served on Porto’s Bakery Cubano bread. You get a myriad of textures and flavor explosion in one bite. Pretty soon, this will have its own following as well.

Chasing-Paradise-11.04.2011-IMG_3572-orig-wm

The Cassava Fries with Aji Cream Sauce is super crunchy. The sauce is good but it’s too light for my own taste. I’d like my fries to come with a super strong kind of dipping sauce. My kids loved it though.

Pork Egg Rolls

Chasing-Paradise-11.04.2011-IMG_3576-orig-wm

Chicken Egg Roll

Both egg rolls were given to me for free to try. Here’s my thing when it comes to egg rolls, not unless it comes with giant shrimp or lobsters, I don’t really have much to say. Having said that, the egg rolls from Chasing Paradise are definitely better than some “turo-turo’s” version and certainly better than the ready made version. It is crunchy with a soft tasty center. Come to think of it, I should’ve ordered the saffron rice to go with it. Hmm…I will get that next time 🙂

Cheese Potato Ball, 3 pcs for $5

The Cheese Potato Balls come 3 pieces in an order. It is definitely finger friendly and the taste and texture definitely friendly across all ages. Love the super crunchy exterior and ooey gooey center.

Chasing-Paradise-11.04.2011-IMG_3568-orig-wm

Bombsquash, 2 for $4

The BombSquash is stuffed Kabocha squash with asian stir-fry ground beef served w/ Aji Cream. Now this is something special. Definitely unique. And certainly filling. It was my way of tricking my young one into eating his veggies 🙂

Chasing-Paradise-11.04.2011-IMG_3578-orig-wm

Brulee'd Thai Tea Pancake Bites with Coconut Cream

Another MUST TRY on their menu is the Brulee’d Thai Tea Pancake Bites with Coconut Cream. Each bite has a firm exterior and soft pillowy center. The batter has a mild hint of Thai Tea. What I love is the drizzled condensed milk that has been torched on the outside. I love the mild Thai Tea flavor, however, when I ordered a big pan for my birthday the next day, I got mixed reviews. Some are okay with the flavor level and others prefer a stronger Thai Tea flavor. It really comes down to personal preference. But it’s certainly a unique and definitely finger friendly and portable.

Chasing Paradise is definitely becoming it’s own entity. A few more additions to the menu & specials from time to time is all it needs to make it a packaged complete GFT. I highly recommend the Chasing Paradise Food Truck for you to try on your next adventure.
