I’ve been waiting for the perfect opportunity to try out the first kosher egg roll food truck in Los Angeles. And that time has come.

I’m loving the overall truck design. Main base color is bright but cool to the eyes. It’s got big letters so a blind bat like myself can read it if it passes by on the street.

The menu is pretty simple yet it provides options for everyone. There’s enough sides and sauces to provide a wide range of variety. There’s a little combo for those going solo and for those picking up food for a group also has the option of the nosh box. Perfection. It is a well rounded, well thought out menu. I am always picking up food for my family so the convenience of the nosh box is highly appreciated.

And the display box? Hello! I love it. Presentation is simple. It gives the customer an idea of what they’re ordering.

Challah Pain Perdu

Challah Pain Perdu

My favorite…Challah Pain Perdu.  It has stone ground bakery challah, coconut, banana, dry roasted peanuts and white rum. It is just delicious. In my opinion the best sauce to dip this with is the coconut lime glaze or the 5 spice scented applesauce.

The Latke

The Latke

The Latke is made of russet potato, green onions and red onions. This would be the vegetarian option. I dipped it in the bbq and the garlic sauce. Both are equally good.

Tonque Chinois

Tonque Chinois

Tonque Chinois has kosher beef tongue, shitake mushroom and scallions. Liked by everybody including my 5 year old. And that’s because he doesn’t know it’s beef tongue. I love the garlic sauce with this egg roll.

MOEriginal

MOEriginal

The MOEriginal has kosher chicken, cabbage and MOEpices. Another group favorite that goes well with either the bbq or the garlic sauce.

Dipping Sauces

Dipping Sauces

I love the range of sauces they’re providing the customers. You’ve got your cool sweet sauces to the spicy. I’m not a real fan of the sriracha that’s why I didn’t even try the MOE’racha. But the other four were exceptionally good.

MOE Slaw

MOE Slaw

The MOE Slaw is simply cabbage and carrots in pickled garlic vinaigrette. Dressed right and refreshing.

Tan Tan Noodles

Tan Tan Noodles

MOEggrolls own version of the Sichuan noodle dish. My first time to ever try tan tan noodles and they’re okay. It’s one of those things where I need to have more than one experience with the dish to form an opinion.

Bobby Ganoush

Bubby Ganoush

The Bubby Ganoush is served with chips and the Bubby Ganoush itself is super yummy but the chips were a tad salty. Later on that day I opened a bag of plain unsalted tortilla chips and a few minutes later bubby’s all gone.

Matzo Ball Soup

Matzo Ball Soup

The Matzo Ball Soup was as expected. Definitely a comfort food.

Another successful first look. I highly recommend MOEggroll if you’re looking to try something new. I’m sure you’ll find a favorite among their mainstays or may one of their seasonal ones. Me? I’ll looking forward to trying their seasonal ones soon.

Thanks for reading and see you on the road 🙂

Pogi Truck

I was in Granada Hills one Wednesday in search for dinner. I looked around and none of the trucks really grabbed my attention. Nothing new and interesting.

And then across the street parked on a street off of Devonshire I saw the word “Pogi”. I crossed the street to get a better look and I’ll be…. It is Pogi Truck.

Their menu is quite refreshing. Almost all if not all of the Filipino GFTs in the LA area offers Filipino breakfast fare, the SILOGS, on their menu. Not in this truck.  I love the fact that Lettuce Wrap and Garlic Edamame are in the menu, however, they were not available that day. Looking forward to that one.

That day though they have a special, ADOBO PORK RIBS! Yum!

We gave our orders and went home.

Chicken Adobo Rice Bowl Combo w/ Lumpia ($9)

Imagine the aroma that accompanied us on our way home? I was nearly delirious. A lot of Filipinos are very critical of Adobo. I would say most have extreme loyalty to a family member’s version. I have my loyalty as well but I’ve come to realize that it is one of those dishes that can be interpreted a thousand ways. Pogi Truck’s adobo is definitely tasty, not too oily and it is not vinegar-heavy. I like 🙂

Adobo Pork Ribs Combo (with Lumpia)

The Adobo Pork Ribs is a different story though. It was super tasty and I love it!

I also ordered Turon which is banana wrapped in egg wrapper and Pogi Truck’s version comes with sea salt caramel. Unfortunately, I was never able to take a picture before it was devoured. I have to say that the turon (banana egg roll) is good but what made it superb is the sea salt caramel. The sea salt flavor really comes through the caramel richness. I love!

I can’t wait to go back for the Lettuce Wrap and the Turon with Sea Salt Caramel.

Now wasn’t that fun? Just the variety makes for such an interesting evening and we certainly had blast. Unfortunately, this spot has no official name nor twitter account where we can check out which trucks are coming out on which day (please let me know if I’m mistaken).

Happy Foodtrucking!!!

Eagle Rock Plaza Gourmet Food Truck Fest

0

Springtime is the perfect time to hold GFT Fests. Weather’s just perfect for such activity, don’t you think? So, here’s another one in Eagle Rock at the Eagle Rock Plaza. It’s going to be on Thursday, March 31st from 5 to 9pm.

What’s so interesting about this particular GFT Fest? You can… SHOP. EAT. REPEAT. I mean, I’m all for supporting local artists and such but this one’s different. One can actually be productive. Take me as an example. I can actually do the opposite which is Eat. Shop. Repeat. I (along with my kiddos) can have an appetizer, go grocery shopping at Seafood City, maybe drop by Target, go back out to eat again and if I have enough energy maybe I’ll drop by at Macy’s. Whew!

So plan on coming out that evening and getting your dinner at t he GFTs. A percentage of the proceeds will benefit the Eagle Rock’s Center for the Arts. There’s sure to be plenty of parking.

Head over to their Facebook Event Page for more info and to RSVP, click ~> HERE <~

Truckit Fest Sneak Peek at Whole Foods Market Tarzana

1

It all started with this tweet. I thought that while it is not in my neighborhood it is close enough. I have to check out their pandesal buns that they just got.

GFTs in front of Whole Foods Market Tarzana

And to my surprise, there were 5 GFTs lined up. Why didn’t I know about this? Was their tweet RT? I did a little internet research and it looks like this is going to be one of the sneak peak Whole Foods Market is sponsoring to promote the inaugural TRUCKIT Fest at Union Station on March 6,2011.

So, let’s take a look at the GFTs that were there.

Curbside Craving

Border Grill

Coolhaus

India Jones Chow Truck

Temaki Truck

Other GFTs scheduled to appear were Ahn Joo and Slammin Sliders. It was raining cats and dogs but people came for some tasty eats. I wish it promoted more because it’s rare that GFTs come by this area.
